These are the Iron lungs that people (who are infected by polio) used to help them breathe.

These are cancer cells!
Dr. Sachin Patel, the founder of The Living Proof Institute, once stated, “We won’t have a cure for disease until we have a cure for greed.” Majority of today's vaccines and medicines cost money that people might not have. Treatments and therapy can cost thousands depending on the virus or disease. The creators are greedy for money so they overpriced the items to gain profit. Diseases can spread like ink on paper. Major diseases and illnesses in the 1930’s prove that it’s a spreadable disaster. Polio, Pneumonia or Dust Pneumonia, and Cancer are three of the diseases and illnesses during this time period. During the 1930’s, illness and disease contaminated the people but many advancements helped stopped them before it got worse. First, polio or poliomyelitis was a serious and deadly illness in the 1930’s. It affected approximately 15,000 people in 1930 alone. According to “1930’s Medicine and Health Overview” (page 1), poliomyelitis is a disease that paralysis parts of they body and can immobilize important parts of the body you need to live. This caused death to many people in the 1930’s. There was no real treatment or vaccines for polio until the 1950’s, but there were items created to help out those with polio. The Iron Lung is a machine that was created. According to “Deadly Diseases of Past Reduced to Bad Memories” (page 1), it states that the iron lung is a device that people with polio were put into to help their chest rise and fall, or breathe. Polio affected their muscles which cause difficulty in breathing, so the Iron Lung did it for them. People usually spent a week or two inside the machine, but some people have been in once since the 1930’s. These people live in the iron lung for almost 24 hours a day. These machines costed about 1,500 dollars which is immensely expensive. Their inability to breathe causes their life to be in the hands of a machine that can break in any minute. Ultimately, polio is a dangerous disease that can destroy the victims that were or are affected. Secondly, dust pneumonia and regular pneumonia was a major health risk during the 1930’s. The Dust Bowl was a catastrophic event that damaged farms and covered everything in dust. This dust was then breathed in by animals and humans causing their lungs to fill with dirt and grime. According to, “Dust Pneumonia, When Breathing is Deadly”(page 1), at least 500 people have suffocated from the dirt they have consumed. Multiple cases of pneumonia occurred after the dust bowl. In the Article, “The Journey of Clinical Investigation,” stated that the introduction of therapy and new medicines helped diminish the cases of pneumonia. These medicines and the therapy helped people cure the pneumonia and helped them to breathe. The therapy was called sulfonamides therapy and the medicine is penicillin. Sulfonamides and Penicillin are medicines that are used to treat bacterial infections. These medicines reduced the death risks and health risks of the people. Therefore, the dust pneumonia that plagued the people of the 1930’s, it had many advancements in medical treatment. Thirdly, cancer was a disease during the 1930’s that ad a lot of medical advancements and treatments. Cancer is a disease where your cells divide abnormally and destroy the production of tissue in your body. There are multiple different versions of cancer in the world. Breast cancer, lung cancer, and leukemia are examples of these types. During the 1930’s, the U.S. army discovered a treatment for cancer; thus chemotherapy was born. Chemotherapy is a drug that was used to fight of the cancer cells in your body. This treatment can be effective, but it also can fail at its job. The creation of this treatment helped saved thousands of children and adults from dying. The 1930’s also was a time where they figured out how miners were getting lung cancer. It was due to the inhalation of dust that containing radium and radioactive substances. This helped the miners become better prepared and safe while mining. It reduced the miners chances of getting cancer in the first place. According to, “The Cancer Atlas” (page 1), they drew the connection that smoking and asbestos can lead to lung cancer. This lead to more complex treatment for cancers and ways they could prevent ever obtaining the disease. Moreover, these advancements in cancer, during the 1930’s, helped saved the people suffering from the disease. In conclusion, the illness and diseases struck people hard in the 1930’s, but the advancement in medical treatments and medicines helped save thousands. Theses diseases have gone down in death rate since then. The polio virus had a major outbreak that caused people to become paralyzed. People had to live inside machines called the ‘‘Iron Lung’’ that breathed air for those who couldn’t on their own. Dust pneumonia occurred due to the dust bowl that turned the skies black. The dust was breathed in and it clogged airways and filled people’s lungs with dirt. Cancer had a lot of advancements during the 1930’s. They discovered more causes of cancer and found a treatment that can cure cancer. Even though diseases and illness affected majority of the people in the 1930’s, the advancement in medical treatment and medicines helped stop those illnesses from spreading far worse. Today, people could still have huge polio outbreaks and people stuck in the iron lung. Without these treatments and medicines, people would still be plagued by these diseases today.
