This quote connects to the 1930’s because the 1930’s was was a very cruel and violent time. Because of the great depression going on in the 1930’s the rate of criminals have shot up catastrophically. The 1930’s was a harsh time and full of violent criminals and they crimes that they committed were terrible.
The 1930’s were flooded with criminals one of the most popular criminals of the 1930’s were Al Capone, also called Scarface, was a major gangster during the Prohibition era in Chicago. He was eventually prosecuted and convicted for tax evasion in 1931. He was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison and served 8 before he was released. He died from a stroke in 1947. Another major criminal was “Machine Gun” Kelly, Machine Gun Kelly was a gangster and kidnapper during Prohibition and the early part of the Great Depression. He was nicknamed "Machine Gun" because his favorite weapon was a Thompson machine gun. He was arrested in Tennessee in 1933 and died in jail from a heart attack in 1954. The rate was really high in the 1930’s and there were so many crimes be committed during the great depression most of these crimes were very violent and others were minor or wasn't really a violent crime. Al Capone was a notorious gangster who ran an organized crime syndicate in Chicago during the 1920s, taking advantage of the era of Prohibition. During the Great Depression, with much of the United States mired in grinding poverty and unemployment, some Americans found increased opportunities in criminal activities like bootlegging, robbing banks, kidnapping, loan-sharking—even murder. Although the 1930’s were very violent and tough time they still found a way for entertainment. Even during "Hard Times" and wartime, people need to be entertained. The American people in the 1930s and 1940s were no exception With the addition of sound, movies became increasingly popular. Comedies, gangster movies, and musicals helped people forget their troubles. In the early 1940s, some of the great dramas of American film reached theaters. Radio was also wildly popular, offering many kinds of programs, from sermons to soap operas.In the 1930s, big bands and swing music were popular, with Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Glenn Miller popular bandleaders. In the 1940s, the bands started to break up, and band singers like Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan went out on their own. War songs became popular. The 1930’s were a very violent and bad time that was flooded with criminals although the 1930’s were very bad they still found away for entertainment. The 1930s were flooded with criminals and violent crimes committed by these criminals. But even though criminals and crimes were flooding the 1930s but entertainment crept its way in and it was very helpful during this time of the great depressions. ` |
